Windows Backup for Organizations with Entra ID

I attended Microsoft Ignite this year in Chicago, and I wanted to talk about one of the less talked about features, in fact if you blinked you probably would have missed it. Windows Backup for Organizations with Entra ID will allow IT admins to enable the backup of user settings such as quick pins in file explorer, start menu settings, and likely more.

While getting a new device or upgrading to Windows 11 is fairly straight forward nowadays, one of the main pain points I hear from end users is losing their quick pins in file explorer, and other personalized windows settings. With the ability to back these settings up, getting a new device, or even logging into a shared device will now hopefully be seamless.

The new Windows Backup for Organizations with Entra ID Accounts supports setting backup and restoration for Windows 10/11 devices that are hybrid or Entra ID joined and will be coming to public preview in the Spring of 2025.

Stay tuned for more updates as this feature is released.
